Another piece of Apple crap September 2, 2010 Cheryl Kleehammer I'm really starting to dislike Apple brand items. It seems they turn out overpriced pieces of junk whenver they get the chance, and their customer service is some of the worst I've encountered.
We have an Apple TV which came with one of these remotes. Within 3 months of normal use, the remote's menu button stopped responding. It's not possible to use the Apple TV without your menu button, unless you want to reset the unit every time and only watch one thing or listen to one artist.
We've since purchased our second remote. We'll probably wind up buying a third, because it takes time to get a new remote in the mail (we live overseas) and the Apple TV is useless without one. Unfortunately, all of the music and television shows we've purchased are wasted money if we move onto another brand item, so we're stuck in the big Apple cycle. We're experiencing the same thing with our iPods - we'd love to move to another brand but a large portion of our music is from the iTunes Store. Once they hook you, you're pretty well stuck.
This remote is a piece of junk. It doesn't work for a long time, the range is pathetic and the buttons aren't always responsive (it can take two or three pushes, even on our new remote, to get the unit to realize we've done anything) and while it's not expensive to simply replace a broken one, it is a major nusiance. I'd complain about how it's not well paired to the Apple TV (it's too simplistic) but that's better left to a review of that item.
Buy more than one if you need it for anything. I'm sure that it would be fine for occasional use, but if you use it everyday it doesn't last very long. Apple really needs to get their act together, starting with better warranties and customer service, and making quality products that last more than a few months to a year.
Great product August 20, 2010 K. Dobbs Great remote, I would buy it used from someone as it is a little pricy new (but most apple products are). That is the only reason it got 4 stars. Just like all other apple products, this is a very clean looking device and serves it's purpose well
Good product, easy to use, inexpensive. March 15, 2010 Anthony A. Cerna (Los Angeles, California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
if you lost your remote or your mac didnt come with one, its a nice piece to have. It allows easier access to front row which is like a media center.
Doesn't Work, no Instructions of Note December 26, 2009 Mr. Joe E. Johnson 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
This product will not pair with any number of iPods I tried - Classic, iTouch, iPhone, new Nano.
I thought the battery might be dead and tested it - it wasn't - had a good charge.
The manual is totally worthless - a page and a half that tells you nothing.
Apple support site provides no help. Wikopedia at least had instructions on how to pair the remote, which is where I struck out trying to pair the thing with numerous iPods/iPhones old and new.
Is mine broken - don't know and since instructions are darn near impossible to find, I don't care.
I am returning the remote and getting my money back.
A great little cheap remote. December 19, 2009 J. Roach (Kentucky) It's a great little remote nothing too fancy or eye catching, but for the price what do you want. The only bad thing i can think of is the fact that it uses infrared so you can't really have it too far away or at too much of a angle or it will not work. All in all a great buy!
