I bought this so that my wife could easily control the 4 components of our home theater. Being somewhat electronics challenged she had to call me to ask how to turn anything on (before) while I was at work. The transition from 4 remotes to 1 was very simple and she can control each device very easily now. The remote even controls the sound bar for which there was no code in the manual. The learning function is great and at this price you really can't go wrong. If I had a second room with a home theater I would own 2 of these.

An excellent 'learning' remote. When the old TV was replaced by an LCD TV, I was faced with using 3 remotes - ATT-Uverse, Windows Media Center Extender Linksys dma2200, and a Polaroid Universal. I found this remote to be simple to program, able to perform advanced single button macros (like changing to another amp input when pressing the 'DVD' component button). ATT-Uverse, Windows, and missing LCDTV functions were then re-programmed or added on top of the older Polaroid TV functions.
Now I just use this remote. This is the only remote I have found capable of doing all this for under $25.00. It's not fully programmed out of the box for everything, but capable of just about anything after a little study, including remote control of an AIR CONDITIONER. AMAZING!

this remote is almost useless to m0st people. the code set used to
input devices is very old. brands like Dell, Hp and others are not
included, if it were not for the learning feature on this unit. the remote would be a weaste of time. The unit does not have updated codes for major manurfactures like samsung. I purchased 4 of these units, the manurfacture date was 2007. Sony is still considering a tapedeck a major component. Even with this unit being easy to program i would CHOOSE SOMETHING ELSE...

Yesterday, I got my new Sony Multi-Brand Universal Remote, a DAY EARLY! I was happy about that to begin with. That, however, just the tip of the iceberg.
For starters, I should tell you. I am quite the technophile. I have a lot of diverse equipment here in the house, and I make my living using it all. Some of the stuff I use offers solutions to the diversity of my equipment. Some of THAT stuff is WAY off-brand stuff, which is the kind of stuff that will NEVER have a code on a remote list.
That's where the fantastic learning function of this remote comes into play. What's more, even when one of my pieces of equipment IS on the list, I found my self needing more cross-functionality with other devices while I had, say, my satellite tuner selected. Ergo, I wanted to be able to use a few more of my TV controls than most while the Satellite Tuner was selected.
Of course, there was the strange factor that, my Vizio equipment, which is Sony's lower end consumer brand, does not have any built-in codes on the remote. Luckily, with some time and patience, I was able to use the learn function on the remote to add everything I needed there too.
Now, I have taken a large pile of remotes, and trimmed it down to just one. Without the learn function on this Sony remote, that would not have been practical to accomplish. Without that learn function, I would not have been able to make this remote usable for what I do with it.

This is the 3rd one of these I have bought for all my electronics in two different houses. I have programmed them all the same so I can easily move from room to room or house to house and know how to quickly get things going. The learning feature is what I use the most. For some electronics there is no code to be able to plug in. Sometimes even when you program in the code all of the buttons on the original remote are not duplicated on your new remote. With the Sony remote you point the original remote into the Sony and it transmits any button function to the Sony. It works every time. Another feature I like is the multiple command buttons on the bottom. I set them up so that one click does several functions like turn TV and DVR on and change input on TV to DVR. All of this with one click. Pretty cool. The owners manual is very clear how to program and steps you through all of the operations to complete any learning function. I have had one of these remotes for over a year and have not had to replace the batteries. I really like them.
