5 out of 5 stars Works as described   September 4, 2010

This attachment is perfect for connecting my MacBook to my HDTV. It looks great and was really easy. I already had an attachment to connect sound from my computer to my TV through the headphone jack, so all works well. If your TV doesn't allow for an HDMI cable and sound hookups on the same setting then this product may not be for you.

2 out of 5 stars Sent wrong cable   August 16, 2010
Sergio Miguel Zambrano (Miami, USA)
If you have a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, don't buy this cable. The one that works has some circuitry or two way data transfer to send your computer your tv's specs to be shown in the audio control panel, allowing you to select that as the audio output. The cable, as per apple documentation, should meet VESA standards.
My advice is don't buy it even if it says it transfers audio, since it doesn't mean that your device will show up in the audio control panel for you to send the audio to it.

I ordered this item from this provider (STSI) based in the photos, and it seemed the right one. The photos showed the right plug, and the female port it was made for, matching my computer's.

I got a different item, from a different provider (HDE). I don't know if the provider can prevent the image switching behavior (seems to be Amazon system selecting the provider), but it seems STSI had a wrong description and HDE paid the bill. I've got a full refund from HDE, though.

Since you can't predict which provider will send you the item or not, the images change every minute. If you refresh a product image (one that many providers offer) you'll notice it changes. Be warned for other products.

Works fine. I`m just having problems with 1080p mode - I see some red points over TV screen, but that's probably because of the faulty HDMI cable.

5 out of 5 stars Works perfectly!   August 4, 2010

I purchased this item to hook up an Optoma HD20 projector to a first gen Intel iMac (1.83 GHz Core Duo), and it works brilliantly. I'm using a 25 ft Link Depot HDMI cable to complete the connection (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IJY8DS/ref=oss_product). This adapter fits snuggly into my iMac, and all the proper supported resolutions appear in my Displays preference pane (1080p included). It appears that almost all of the negative reviews have to do with either it not being the correct size or it not supporting audio. As for the first complaint, I recommend you first visit the site EveryMac ([...]) to double check what Mac you have and what video-out port it has. Apple has a habit (for better or for worse) of quickly adopting the most recent (and often times propriety) video port, even amongst the same models. So please, before you complain about this not being the correct adaptor for your application, double check that your computer does indeed sport a mini-DVI port and not something else. As for the second complaint (lack of audio), this is due to Apple not supporting audio out through the video port. While I don't know this for sure, I imagine it's because the original video format, in this case DVI, doesn't support audio. Why would you expect an adapter that converts from a video format that doesn't support audio to one that does magically also have audio support without also plugging into an audio port? This isn't an iPad, people; it isn't a magical device. Before you complain about an adapter, it's important to understand what the hardware you're using it with does or doesn't support. This product performs a very specific function and it performs that intended function very well.

3 out of 5 stars I'm 50/50   June 29, 2010

Using the cord is a no-brainer. You just need a male-to-male HDMI cord to complete the hookup to your TV. I did find that the mini DVI side of the cord is a bit awkward - I guess I would just expect it to fit more snugly into the port on my Mac. Regardless, it works fine...if your computer can handle it...

One word of advice from my experience is to make sure you have enough RAM on your computer to transmit images/videos onto your TV. The purpose of me buying this cord was a cheap solution to watch Hulu/Fancast videos of my favorite shows online while having the image show up on the TV screen. It worked once, but now my computer stops playing videos as soon as I hook it up to my TV. And as soon as I unplug the cable, the computer immediately starts playing it again. I called Apple Support and after a few troubleshooting tests, figured it was probably because my computer doesn't have enough RAM. So my cheap solution has been foiled. Time to spend $100-200 on installing new RAM!

So all in all, the cord works fine. You just need to make sure you have all of the correct components before you can expect to cancel your cable service and make the switch to watching TV online.
